An assortment of our retro striped popcorn boxes and glass containers are featured in this set up. Our popular paper straws in the classic red and white stripe go perfectly with the small coke bottles. Did you notice the plain boxes covered in red wrapping paper or the red satin ribbon that was add to a plain white table covering?

Tissue Paper Flower Pompom tutorial ... these are adorable for party, shower or wedding decor

tissue paper flower pompom tutorial | Lorrie Everitt for Creative Bag

I have been making tissue paper flower pompoms for a number of years. The basic one colour pompoms are nice ... the multiple colour pompoms are cute ... but I think that these new ones that I have been creating are just adorable! The secret is to cut the ends into different lengths and shape the edges.

These tissue paper flower pompoms are not for hanging, they are meant to be flat on the back to hang on walls or place on table tops.

Here's how to make them ...
tissue paper flower pompom tutorial | Lorrie Everitt for Creative Bag
1. You will need eight sheets of tissue paper to create these medium and large tissue paper pompoms. I used three colours ... two blue (flower centre) , four purple (flower) and two green (leaves).
2. Along the shortest edge, start making accordion folds about 1" wide. Crease the tissue with each fold. When all of the tissue has been accordion folded, fold the tissue in half to mark the centre.

Note: 8 full sheets (20" x 30") of tissue paper will made one large pompom. Cut the tissue in half (15" x 20") to create two medium pompoms. My samples are all medium.

3. Now comes the fun part ... shaping the different layers of the flower. You can see above on the left that I separated the three colours of tissue and then folded each colour stack back together. I cut the green tissue first - both ends now have a pointed edge. Next I cut the purple tissue with a rounded edge - notice that it  is now much shorter in length than the green tissue. Last I cut the centre blue tissue with a fringe edge (the fringes are about three inches long) -notice the blue tissue is much shorter in length than the purple tissue.

4. Once all of the edges are trimmed you need to open the three tissue paper groups and using the accordion fold as your guide layer the tissue into a single stack as shown above on the right.

5. Re-fold the tissue papers as shown above on the left and find the centre fold of the tissue stack.
6. At the centre fold, add a twist tie to hold the tissue together.

7. Starting with the blue tissue, separate the layers gently by pulling away from the centre one layer at a time. Do this with all of the tissues on one side and repeat on the other side.

I told you these were adorable! And they are really not that difficult to create. Experiment and make some yourself. Mix these with traditional hanging tissue paper flower pompoms when you are planning your decorations. You can find my tutorial for making hanging tissue paper pompoms here  and if you want to buy our tissue paper pompom kits you can find them here

I think that these tissue paper flower pompoms would be fabulous at a party, shower or wedding. These colours look great with the free printables I created on this post - just in case you missed it.

Chalkboard and Mason Jar inspired {free} printables to use for a bridal shower, wedding or anniversary party!

chalkboard inspired downloads that can be used for weddings, bridal & baby showers, anniversary party and more | Creative Bag blog at creativebag.com

With all of the talk about weddings and bridal showers around the stores lately I thought that this would be a good time to offer another free printable with a "love" theme. You can use the printables as gift tags for favors, signs for sweet tables and table settings, tags for a wishing tree and wrappers for chocolate bars.

Working out a design for the downloads was easy, I simply combined some of the hottest trends of the season ... chalkboards, mason jars and the colour purple with pretty flowers.

I added all of the printables to a sweet table display in the Toronto store this week.

Note: If you are interested in making the tissue paper pompoms that are on display in the photo above I will be doing a diy tutorial for them in the next blog post - so come back to visit!

You can either personalize the printables on your computer or use our chalk markers to write directly onto the "chalkboard" area of the tags. Guests can use a regular pen to write on the back of the wishing tree tags.

Here's a quick tutorial for how I packaged the chocolate bar favors using
my printables and wrapping paper ...

1. Use wrapping paper to cover the chocolate bar. A wrapper paper cutter made cutting the wrapping paper into small squares a breeze.
2. Wrap the chocolate bars with the wrapping paper. Hint: I always use two sided tape - the tape is hidden away and your edges look clean.
3. To add the wrapper, start by centring the wrapper from the front and wrap around to the back. Tape the wrapper in place using two side tape.

Rustic Outdoor Party on YouTube | Petite & Sweet and Creative Bag

Petite & Sweet has just released another YouTube video on their Petite and Sweet TV channel. As I have already told you before, we are working with Elle Daftarian on the YouTube video series.

The rustic woodland theme has been one of my favourite themes for a wedding, party or special event for a very long time. It's comfortable and you can dress it up or dress it down with your details. I think that you will be inspired by all of the projects that Elle and her team created for this video.

So many great ideas ... don't you agree?! Here's some of the details and product information ...

Elle's signature drink recipe for iced hot chocolate can be found on the Petite & Sweet blog. Our square 8oz mason jars and birch bark straws are perfect for this rustic outdoor theme. We just received a new assortment of mason jar mugs and beverage containers that are perfect for an outdoor rustic party.

The s'more bar is genius. I love how Elle used homemade marshmallows and you can find her recipe for making these here. Watch the video to find out more about how to recreate one of these yourself. Burlap table runners can be found here.

Our paper bags were used for so many projects in the video. Simply mist the bags with a little bit of water and while the paper is still damp you can crinkle the bags to fit tightly around jars. Use the same technique for the favor bags. Elle filled these bags with popcorn and nuts - yum!

Our wood slice medallions are inexpensive and easy to incorporate into so many projects . Here you can see they were used as escort cards with cutlery bundles and as food labels on the s'more bar.  We do sell custom napkins, but if you want a more casual diy look, you can make your own using our custom stamps and permanent ink on plain napkins. Find these glass containers and more here.

Here's a couple more unique ideas on the video. Use jute twine and mini clothes pegs  with birch branches to create a photo display. This idea could be recreated for a wedding - hang escort cards to start and ask guests to replace their card with a polaroid photo of themself. Vintage books are used to hold a display of graham crackers ... use waxed paper in between the pages to make the book a little more "food safe".

I have always liked the idea of serving bite size portions at a sweet table. These cookie and milk "shooters" are adorable! Follow these links for glass containers, birch bark paper straws and striped paper straws. Our mini metal buckets can be spray painted if you don't like the rustic finish. Use a regular sized cupcake liner inside the bucket and add a mini cupcake. Use mini clothes pegs to add a tag to each bucket if you want to use these as favors.

Here's the video ... I hope that you will "Like" it!

Macaron favor packaging inspiration using macarons from MoRoCo Chocolate

Tuesday 13 May 2014

Our new macaron favor boxes have arrived. MoRoCo Chocolat gave us a couple of boxes of their colourful (and yummy) macarons so that I could package them up. Since it's wedding season, many of the favors that I created were made to look like wedding favors ... keep in mind that many of these ideas could be adapted for any party or event.

Macarons come in lots of colours and colour combinations. My favourites are the two tone coloured ones with the sprinkles! For favors I'd suggest using either the small box that fits a single macaron or the medium box that holds up to six macarons.

The small macaron favor boxes are available in white and kraft. If you are looking for a clean and simple look - the white boxes are perfect. You can add coloured ribbon to co-ordinate with your theme. Looking for ways to personalize your favors ... add a custom ribbon! For a extra touch of elegance - add a rhinestone pin!

For a more natural or casual look - try our kraft coloured macaron favor boxes. Dress up our kraft boxes with interesting tags and baker's twine to make them your own.

I drilled holes in our wood medallions so that I could attach it to the favor using twine
Our laser cut feather tags can be used as is but I like to add some glitter to make them a little more special for a wedding.
David Tutera's tags come in a variety of different shapes and colours - write a message or add a name to use them as escort cards as well.

Our 2x2x2 clear boxes are perfect for packaging two macarons! Here's two variations for packaging using a clear box and lace ribbon.

On the left - replace the gold liner insert with patterned scrapbooking paper, a custom ribbon and a burlap flower
On the right - keep the gold liner insert, add a striped cotton ribbon and a mini kraft tag trimmed with gold glitter.

The medium box fits up to six macarons. Since I used a variety of different colours of macarons  in the white box ... I thought that I'd use a variety of different colours and sizes of organza ribbon. I tied the ribbons together and pulled the ribbons apart after I tied a single knot. Here again I used one of our laser cut feather tags ... this time I added glitter just to the tip of the feather for an added touch of elegance.

We also carry a large macaron box! This one holds twelve macarons ... yummy! It's a little large for a favor but perfect for a gift. Above you can see that I used one of our large kraft macaron boxes, wrapped it with one of my favourite striped cotton ribbons and then used a variety of different tags to finish off my packaging.

Tags: Kraft tag. Laser cut feather tag that I embellished on one side with gold glitter. Chalkboard tag that I embellished with a gold glitter heart.
