Giant tissue paper flowers are one of those DIY projects that can be translated to fit almost any theme and colour scheme and when you group together a collection of tissue paper flowers they can make a huge impact. Use them to create photo backdrops at weddings, celebrations and pop up markets.

It really doesn't matter if your flowers look like a specific type of flower. Use our templates and diy instructions as a guideline. Tissue paper and sizzle are available in many different colours so go ahead and just have fun.

Here's the supplies we used to create our giant tissue paper flowers: tissue paper, sizzle, natural excelsior, twist ties, cardstock, scissors and our petal templates.

Let's make a "sunflower" (or a flower with pointed petals):

Cut the tissue paper petals using the sunflower template in the quantities indicated.

Scrunch the flat ends of the tissue paper to create the petal shapes.

We suggest cutting a piece of cardstock cut into a circular shape so that it can be use it as a base to form the flower and afterwards for hanging purposes.

Create the first layer of  your flower by gluing the petals to the cardstock as shown below ...

Once the first layer is complete repeat with the remaining larger petals to create a second layer ...

Now that you have the hang of it, add two more layers of petals using the smaller petals ...

Once the petals are all set, glue a scrunched up ball of sizzle to the centre of the flower.

You can also create flowers with a more rounded petal shape using our other flower petal templates.

Cut the number of petals as indicated on the template and then follow the general directions for scrunching the tissue into petals and gluing the petals onto a cardstock base ...

We added a few layers of contrasting tissue paper (circles that were scrunched to give them a little texture) and then added natural excelsior to the centre of this flower.

Giant flowers take up a lot of space and you will find that you do not have to make many of them if you are trying to create a large backdrop. Try to vary the size of the flowers a bit so that you will have some that are a little bit smaller to fill in the spaces between the flowers.

diy favors using our glass containers

diy tea favor inspiration from Creative Bag

I've talked to a number of brides in the past few weeks who were looking for favor packaging ideas for tea, specifically the loose leaf tea that has become so popular. So today I'm going to share a couple of favor ideas for loose leaf tea in our small glass containers with cork tops. These favors could be used for weddings but I think that they would be equally lovely at a shower or special party.

Pink bakery twine was tied around the top of this bottle. I created a simple watercolour paper tag that I could add to the cork top using a decorative pin.

I wanted guests to know what kind of tea was inside the container so I used the watercolour paper tag as a label. If you can't find decorative pins like the one I used, simply glue a fancy bead to the end of a long pin to create your own.

The next favor takes a little more work to put together and is a little more expensive to create but it is worth the extra effort and makes a wonderfully useful gift.

Lace ribbon was used to attach a tea scoop and infuser to the glass containerThe favor also doubles as an escort card holder. You can see how I attached the watercolour paper escort card to the tea scoop using two sided tape on this next photo ...

Washi tape was added to hold the tea scoop in place - you could also use lace tape or glitter tape.

We have lots of other glass containers and paper bags to store larger amounts of tea. Check them out on our website or come visit one of our stores!

Chalkboard and Mason Jar inspired {free} printables to use for a bridal shower, wedding or anniversary party!

chalkboard inspired downloads that can be used for weddings, bridal & baby showers, anniversary party and more | Creative Bag blog at creativebag.com

With all of the talk about weddings and bridal showers around the stores lately I thought that this would be a good time to offer another free printable with a "love" theme. You can use the printables as gift tags for favors, signs for sweet tables and table settings, tags for a wishing tree and wrappers for chocolate bars.

Working out a design for the downloads was easy, I simply combined some of the hottest trends of the season ... chalkboards, mason jars and the colour purple with pretty flowers.

I added all of the printables to a sweet table display in the Toronto store this week.

Note: If you are interested in making the tissue paper pompoms that are on display in the photo above I will be doing a diy tutorial for them in the next blog post - so come back to visit!

You can either personalize the printables on your computer or use our chalk markers to write directly onto the "chalkboard" area of the tags. Guests can use a regular pen to write on the back of the wishing tree tags.

Here's a quick tutorial for how I packaged the chocolate bar favors using
my printables and wrapping paper ...

1. Use wrapping paper to cover the chocolate bar. A wrapper paper cutter made cutting the wrapping paper into small squares a breeze.
2. Wrap the chocolate bars with the wrapping paper. Hint: I always use two sided tape - the tape is hidden away and your edges look clean.
3. To add the wrapper, start by centring the wrapper from the front and wrap around to the back. Tape the wrapper in place using two side tape.
