Read it now! Our new online magazine - Creative Packaging Inspiration for Creative Entrepreneurs.

Friday, 23 September 2016

Saturday September 24, 2016 is the Etsy Made in Canada Event. There will be pop up markets all over Canada on Saturday filled with local Etsy shop owners. I will be at the MaRS building in Toronto with the Etsy Made in Canada Toronto team. It will be a great day to check out local handmade goods and the creative entrepreneurs who made them.

I have a workshop at 3:30 with the 25 people who were able to sign up in advance for tickets to the free event.

We have many creative customers that will taking part in the Etsy Made in Canada Event all over Canada. At Creative Bag, we know that good packaging can help to sell products. So I teamed up with four local Etsy shop owners to create an online magazine filled with packaging inspiration for creative entrepreneurs. It's live now and I hope that you will check it out.

Thanks to Doris, Alicia, Robin and Karen for working with me on this project.

Countdown to the holidays inspiration from Style at Home and Creative Bag

Friday, 13 November 2015

If you are planning to create a advent calendar to count down the holidays, November is the month to start planning and get your diy on.

We were very excited to see what blogger Jennifer Flores from Rambling Renovations created using our cotton drawstring bags. You can see it in Style at Home November 2015 magazine.

Jennifer's refined rustic room was so beautiful - contemporary with lots of natural details. The fabric bags hanging on the mantle make such a great focal point and make a beautiful holiday decorating detail even if you don't have small children. You will find more decorating inspiration for the holidays on Jennifer's blog here.

Looking for more count down inspiration? Check out our Creative Living online magazine from last year here as well as on our Pinterest board.

holiday gift wrapping | Creative Bag

The cold weather is still a ways a way, but some of our holiday products have started to arrive in our warehouse.

We designed three exclusive collections for this holiday season. Each collection is very different, and to be honest, I still am not sure which one is my favourite.

URBAN MARKET is black and white, clean and contemporary with a little dash of fun. Make this collection your own by adding pops of colour to match your brand or holiday decor. With wintery elements like snowflakes, bears and pine trees, you're bound to get into the holiday spirit.

1961 is a retro collection featuring candy stripes, whimsical ornaments and an argyle print inspired by grandpa's holiday socks.

paper bow printables to download for free - woodland theme | creativebag.com

I've had a number of requests for the art to create the paper bows that were featured in our  Creative Living Magazine. I've made and shared printables to create paper bows before in patterns to co-ordinate with wedding and party themes. I could not resist making some to co-ordinate with three of our holiday collections and today I'm going to give you the printables to make them yourself.

Here's a really quick tutorial for making these. Please note that I numbered the individual pieces that you will cut out and glue on my "tutorial bow" so that you could easily see what I am describing in my directions ...

quick tutorial for creating paper bows - find lots of free downloads for paper bows on the blog | creativebag.com

Directions: Print downloads on white cardstock. Each page contains elements to create two bows. Cut bow shapes. For each bow you will require one set of loops (two), one set of tails (three) and one band for the middle (one).

1. Take the two outer tabs on the loops cut out and bend them into the centre back. Glue in place.
2. Glue the loops on top of the tails cut out.
3. Place the centre of the band on top of the loops and wrap the ends around to the back of the tail. Secure in place with glue

Here's a look at some all of the bows included in the printables package. The three red, blue and white bows go nicely with our Holly Jolly collection, the wood grain bow matches our Into the Woods collection and the black, white and gold bow co-ordinates with the Glitz and Glam collection. Attach these bows to boxes and bags ... if you are not very good at tying a ribbon bow - try these instead!!

Get Creative with wrapping paper

Friday, 17 October 2014

get creative with wrapping paper | Creative Bag {dot} com

Wrapping paper is pretty awesome. It's pretty, it's artsy, and it's one way among others, to make the most impersonal offerings - gift cards and electronics to name a couple - seem meaningful.

When I am wrapping a large number of gifts, I usually end up with a pile of wrapping paper scraps. Instead of send those pretty pieces of paper to the recycle bin, I use them to create these little gift tube packages. They are super easy to make, so dust off your sewing machine and get ready to WOW everyone with this unique gift packaging idea.

Here's how I made them:tutorial for making unique gift packages using wrapping paper| Creative Bag {dot} com

1.Cut wrapping paper into a 7" x 6" panel. On the back of the paper (along one 6" edge), place a 5" piece of two-sided tape centred along the edge. Roll the panel into a tube shape and press the edges together.
Note: To keep your sewing machine running smoothly, do not apply tape to areas that you plan to add stitching.
2. Flatten one end of the tube and machine stitch about 1/4" along the edge. Optional: Trim the paper edge with decorative scissors.
3. Fill the tube with candy, a small toy, gift card or whatever you want to wrap. Turn the tube 90 degrees and close the top edge so that you create a triangular shape. Sew the top edge and cut with decorative scissors.
Go ahead and make these your own by adding finishing details with twine, ribbon, stickers, tags, paper bows and more.

This package would make a sweet escort card/favor at a holiday dinner party.
Packaging details: Tiffany blue solid everyday wrapping paper, baker's twine, clothespin that I stamped a name onto, gift card.

This package looks like something you would give as a secret Santa gift.
Packaging details: Red solid everyday wrapping paper, paper bow. You will be able to download the template for our holiday paper bows in the next Creative Living Magazine - due the end of this month.

Be a teacher's pet with this gift packaging inspiration.

I am going to make a bunch of these to use for a countdown to the holidays! Just add chalkboard stickers and number each package with a chalk marker.

These wrapping paper tube packages would be ideal for more than just the Christmas holidays ... I'm thinking Halloween, New Year's Eve, Easter, weddings!

sneak peek at what we are working on for the next issue of Creative Living magazine

Tuesday, 30 September 2014

I'm just putting the final touches on our next issue of Creative Living magazine and it should be available by the end of this week. The new issue is all about holiday food packaging. (Yum!)

Today I'm just going to give you a sneak peek of one of the pages in that I'm working on right now. As you can see, it's for a cookie swap party. If you have never been a guest at a cookie swap, I have a number of suggestions for hosting your own party. I designed a cookie swap party printable kit that you can download for free from the magazine. The fun graphics on the invitations, recipe cards and display signs were created to work with our Holly Jolly collection. I'll let you know when we go live with the next magazine so you can check it out!
