Party Inspiration: Modern Wilderness Baby Shower. Let's Eat.

Thursday, 20 July 2017

Welcome to our Modern Wilderness Baby Shower.

We teamed up with an amazing group of local entrepreneurs and makers to create a styled shoot filled with unique details that are sure to inspire. This is the first of three posts and today is all about our sweet table set up because honestly, who doesn't love a sweet table?!

The party colours were primarily black and white. It's a perfect palette for a gender neutral theme and you can add pops of colour with the food and flowers. As you will see, a few pink elements will be revealed during the party.

A modern wilderness themed nursery was the inspiration for the party. A few baby gifts were left unwrapped and incorporated into the party decor. The black and white striped play tent will make a wonderful gift. We placed it beside the sweet table so party gifts could be placed inside. Balloons and paper lanterns  are easy to set up, take up a lot of space and are available in colours to match almost any colour palette.

Our adorable two tier cake was inspired by a handmade fox doll and the hand drawn graphics printed on a onesie. We added a striped paper straw to the acrylic love cake topper to add a pop of colour.

The toy camera is a reminder to grab a real camera for the cake cutting.

The cake cutting reveals an ombre pink filling - a clue for guests that a little girl was on the way.

Find it here: Cake serving sets. Wrapping papers to cover books and to laminate for cake liners.

Creative Pinspiration to do with the kids

Summer is almost over and the beginning of a new year of school is just around the corner. If you are getting tired of hearing the kids say "there's nothing to do", why not take advantage of the last few weeks of summer and let them create something fun using some of our everydayproducts.

I've been pinning a number of creative ideas to do with the kids on our Pinterest boards lately. Here's some of my favourites along with the links to the projects.

Who knew you could do so many creative things with tissue paper and mason jars?!

Creative Pinspiration to do with the kids

Paper straws are not just for drinking. String paper straw "beads" onto baker's twine
to create jewellery for younger children or a garland to hang artwork and pictures for a child's bedroom.

Gable boxes are not just for baked goods! Love how these ones were decorated and used as activity boxes for kids.

And you've gotta love this simple idea using plain wrapping paper. Use white or kraft wrapping paper with crayons and markers. This idea would be also be adorable using

Have you created or pinned any fun projects to do with the kids using our products?

Rustic Outdoor Party on YouTube | Petite & Sweet and Creative Bag

Petite & Sweet has just released another YouTube video on their Petite and Sweet TV channel. As I have already told you before, we are working with Elle Daftarian on the YouTube video series.

The rustic woodland theme has been one of my favourite themes for a wedding, party or special event for a very long time. It's comfortable and you can dress it up or dress it down with your details. I think that you will be inspired by all of the projects that Elle and her team created for this video.

So many great ideas ... don't you agree?! Here's some of the details and product information ...

Elle's signature drink recipe for iced hot chocolate can be found on the Petite & Sweet blog. Our square 8oz mason jars and birch bark straws are perfect for this rustic outdoor theme. We just received a new assortment of mason jar mugs and beverage containers that are perfect for an outdoor rustic party.

The s'more bar is genius. I love how Elle used homemade marshmallows and you can find her recipe for making these here. Watch the video to find out more about how to recreate one of these yourself. Burlap table runners can be found here.

Our paper bags were used for so many projects in the video. Simply mist the bags with a little bit of water and while the paper is still damp you can crinkle the bags to fit tightly around jars. Use the same technique for the favor bags. Elle filled these bags with popcorn and nuts - yum!

Our wood slice medallions are inexpensive and easy to incorporate into so many projects . Here you can see they were used as escort cards with cutlery bundles and as food labels on the s'more bar.  We do sell custom napkins, but if you want a more casual diy look, you can make your own using our custom stamps and permanent ink on plain napkins. Find these glass containers and more here.

Here's a couple more unique ideas on the video. Use jute twine and mini clothes pegs  with birch branches to create a photo display. This idea could be recreated for a wedding - hang escort cards to start and ask guests to replace their card with a polaroid photo of themself. Vintage books are used to hold a display of graham crackers ... use waxed paper in between the pages to make the book a little more "food safe".

I have always liked the idea of serving bite size portions at a sweet table. These cookie and milk "shooters" are adorable! Follow these links for glass containers, birch bark paper straws and striped paper straws. Our mini metal buckets can be spray painted if you don't like the rustic finish. Use a regular sized cupcake liner inside the bucket and add a mini cupcake. Use mini clothes pegs to add a tag to each bucket if you want to use these as favors.

Here's the video ... I hope that you will "Like" it!

5 pretty diy favor packaging ideas using our 8oz gusset clear bags and free download for bag headers

pretty packaging for favors by Lorrie Everitt of Creative Bag using 8oz gusset clear bags
Beautiful baked goods and sweet treats always make wonderful wedding and party favors and the best way to package them is in clear bags or boxes. So with that in mind, I used our 8oz gusset clear bags and came up with five different packaging projects to inspire you.

If you like the bag headers that I designed for a couple of the projects, you can download them for free for your wedding or party favors. You'll find the downloads at the end of this post.

Decorated cookies can be quickly packaged in our clear gusset bags. The bags should be folded over at the top before adding the folded header to keep the cookies fresher longer.

Note: The bag can be cut shorter if it is too long for your cookies. The header should always cover most of the empty bag space as shown in the photo above.

Paper straws are not just for drinking! Use cut paper straws to decorate our bamboo skewers
and start making your own candy kabobs!  Add my folded paper headers the bags using two staples. Or if you want to add an extra little touch of colour, try punching two holes through the header and bag and use ribbon or baker's twine to tie together.

Use custom stickers and our clear bags to repackage large colourful lollipops. If you can't find a sticker shape to suit your packaging needs, you can create your own size and shape of stickers using full page sticker sheets and paper punch shapes.

Note: if the bag is too long for what you are packaging, work out the length that best fits by testing with one bag and then cut the rest of the bags before you start to fill them.

Who doesn't love cakepops?! These adorable little treats make great favors and whether you want to package them so that they can stand up on their own (like my samples) or so that they can be displayed in a container our the 8oz gusset clear bag are the perfect size. I covered plain white lollipop sticks with paper straws before packaging mine. Add a custom tag or flag to match your event theme.

The mini chalkboard signs on this project could also be added to a custom bag header. Write guest names on each chalkboard sign and you eliminate the need for additional escort cards.

Inspired to make some of these yourself? I hope so!
The downloads for the two bag headers can be found here:

Happy packaging!

Paper straw frames

paper straw frame tutorial from creativebag.com
Here's an easy project that you can create in afternoon using our paper straws. Paper straw frames can be used as a decorative element at a wedding, shower or party. Use them on food and sweet tables to let guests know what is being served. Signs are especially useful for guests that have food allergies to nuts, dairy, glutten or whatever.
paper straws from Creative Bag
Our paper straws some in so many beautiful colours. I especially love the striped ones. We also carry different patterns and colours seasonally.

Here's how I made my paper straw frame:
paper straw tutorial on Creative Bag's blog
1. I used some old Ikea wood frames that I had on hand (any plain frame will work), paper straws, glue, scissors, a pencil and a Martha Stewart scoreboard. If you don't have a scoreboard you can use a ruler.
2. Figure out how long your straws will need to be to completely cover your frame. For my small frame, I cut my longest straws down to 6.75" and my smallest straws to 1". I used my scoring board to mark with a pencil where I would need to cut each straw and then simply cut the straws with a pair of sharp scissors.
3. Once you have all of the straws cut to fit your frame you can start to glue the straws to the frame. I put glue on the frame and added the straws in the following order:  long straws at the top, short straws on both sides and then the long straws at the bottom.
4. Let your straws dry and you are done! I told you this was easy.
paper straw tutorial from Creative Bag
I used one colour of straws in this sample but you could easily do this project with a mix of different colours to match your colour theme. Have fun and experiment with straw placement on your frame.

Just so that you know, when I'm creating a project for the first time it sometimes takes me a few tries to everything perfect. I'm a little picky when it comes to little details ... I'm a Virgo, need I say more? ... and I thought that I'd share with you why I recommend using a scoring board vs a ruler for this project.
Creative Bag blog post on making paper straw frames
Pictured above are my first and second attempts at making these frames. In my first attempt with the green and blue straws I used a ruler to measure my straws and I found it difficult to be consistent - especially on the 1" pieces. Check out the shorter straws on the sides! In my second attempt you can see that when I used my Martha Stewart scoreboard to mark each straw, I was able to be more accurate in my markings and my finished piece looks a bit more polished.
