Creative DIY Inspiration - how to customize garment bags for your wedding party | Creative Bag

We have seen so many brides (and grooms) wearing customized jackets on their wedding day lately. Whether the jackets are leather, vegan leather or denim we can't get over how beautiful they look in wedding photos.

We are pretty sure that a lot of thought and care was put into designing and creating those jackets and we hope that they are being stored in a garment bag before and after the wedding day. Did you know that most of our garment bags can be personalized using paint pens?

DIY supply list - we used this garment bag, a white Stabilo pencil and white Sharpie paint markers.

Step 1. Lightly sketch out a rough design using the Stabilo pencil.

Step 2. Trace over your sketch using the paint markers. You might want to use a few different sizes of paint markers depending on your design. If you have a lot of solid areas to fill in use a larger tip.

Step 3. You may want to add in finer details to your design using an extra fine point marker.
Once the paint is completely dry you can use a dry cloth or eraser to remove the pencil marks.

Make it your own by adding your name.

Wouldn't these personalized garment bags be a wonderful keepsake for your bridal party's clothing as well?!

Wrapping Paper DIY idea - Jewellery Display Cones

DIY jewellery display cones using wrapping paper | Creative Bag

Here's a simple DIY project using wrapping paper that is both beautiful and functional. If you make and sell handcrafted jewellery these display cones will come in handy for craft markets and to style your products for photography.

Here's what you'll need:
Paper mache cones (available at most art supply stores), wrapping paper, scissors, two-sided tape, a ruler and a pencil.
Note: Wrapping paper patterns shown are from our holiday(tree farm, kraft wood grain) and everyday (gold hearts, white with gold dots) collections.

1. Cut wrapping paper to fit the cone as shown above making sure that there is enough length to fit completely around the cone. Add a piece of two sided tape along the cone as shown above.

2. Place the cone with the two-sided tape down onto the centre back of the wrapping paper. Hold a pencil on the bottom of the cone. Roll the cone while holding the pencil in place to draw the curve of the cone onto the wrapping paper. Trim the paper along the curved line.

3. Roll the paper on one side around the cone. Trim the paper to fit as shown above and use two sided tape to keep the wrapping paper in place. Continue on the other side of the cone to finish.

This is how the back of the cone should look when you are finished. If you want to change the wrapping paper at some point just remove the paper or cover it up and start all over again! Use assorted sizes of paper mache cones to give your display height or, if you have space, incorporate gift boxes into your display to give the cones more dimension.

Here's some more products that are great for displaying products in holiday markets and in styled shoots ... chalkboards, gift boxes, faux antler card holders, mini lights

For inspiration, here's how we used the DIY jewellery display cones in a holiday styled shoot recently with some local Etsy Makers:

diy wrapping paper confetti poppers | Creative Bag

Looking for a way to use up your wrapping paper scraps? Or perhaps you are looking at a pile of used wrapping paper and wish you could find a way to recycle it other than adding it to a blue bin? Here's a fun way to bring in the new year and take care of that left over wrapping paper. Use a paper shredder to make your wrapping paper scraps into confetti. Then get to work creating your own confetti poppers using push pop containers!

I've shown you how to make these confetti poppers before for weddings and parties. You can find the tutorial for creating these confetti poppers here.

pretty gift packaging for your bridesmaids

pretty gift packaging for your bridemaids | Creative Bag

David Tutera's mini milk glass bottles with cork tops have been a popular item this year for packaging wedding and party favors. Today I'm going to share with you an idea for using these mini bottles to package earrings for your bridesmaids. I've seen so many adorable handmade earrings on Etsy for bridesmaids and I thought that it would be nice to gift wrap them in a unique way to co-ordinate with your wedding theme.

I purchased the smallest screw eyes that I could find at the hardware store and screwed two of them into the cork top as shown above. All you have to do is attach the earrings and place the lid on the bottle. Pretty easy - right?

Of course, this packaging idea will not work with stuns or earrings that are very long or really wide so make sure your earrings will fit inside the bottle before going on to the next step.

I selected four different wedding themes and decorated the bottles to co-ordinate.

For a boho inspired wedding - what could be prettier than lace ribbon, a mini gift tag and gold spray painted bottles? I used Krylon's 18kt gold plate spray paint on this bottle.

Note: use painter's tape to protect the area of glass you don't want to paint and remove the tape immediately after spraying so that the paint does not dry on the tape.

Put a little sparkle to your gift packaging by adding craft glitter. Use baker's twine to add the metal rimmed tag to the bottle.

Mini terrariums are so popular right now and if you have included a lot of natural elements to your wedding this gift packaging idea may be perfect for you. I added a little bit of moss to the bottom of this bottle to look like a terrarium. I painted a mini white gift tag with watercolour paint and attached it to the bottle using a wired ribbon

Here's a cute idea for a destination wedding - the earrings where made using old maps and I added tiny heart candies to this bottle. A mini kraft tag in the shape of a luggage tag is attached to the bottle using natural twine.

For a destination wedding on the beach, you could use sand, sea glass or mini shells instead of heart candies.

pretty packaging for baby and free downloads for baby's first year photo stickers | Creative Bag

One of our custom services staff, Lynn, delivered a baby girl earlier this month. I designed a simple diy gift for baby Brittany using some of our gift boxes and our blank printable sticker sheets. You can recreate this gift yourself (for personal use only) by using my free download and the instructions below.

By the way, the download contains two colour versions - I've only shown the pink version in this post.

I took many, many pictures of my daughters when they were little. Over the years, we have spent a lot of time looking through photo boxes to find pictures for school projects and to add into scrapbooks. As time passes, it has become difficult to remember how old the girls were in their photos. So with that in mind, I designed the first year photo stickers so Lynn could add the stickers to whatever Brittany is wearing on the first day each month and take a photo.

I purchased some onesies that matched the colours of the photo stickers and packaged them in a gift box that could be reused afterwards as a baby memory box.

So here's what I used to create the first year stickers and gift packaging: my printables, 4 full page printable sticker sheets, large kraft and white gift box, 4"x4"x1" white stationery box, ribbon

Note: the printables include 12 "months" speech bubbles, a long packaging label for the photo sticker packaging and a label for the lid of the memory box that can be personalized.

The blank sticker sheets are easy to use on your home printer. Just remember to print "size as is" and not "size to fit" so that they print properly. I always do a test print on regular paper first to make sure that I don't waste my sticker sheets.

Use scissors to cut the photo stickers as shown above. If you have a paper cutter, you may want to use it to cut the straight edge elements for the packaging labels. Use the crop marks on the art as a guide for cutting the labels.

The 12 "speech bubble" photo stickers are packaged in a white stationery box with a clear lid. The lid stays in place when the long packaging sticker is wrapped around one side of the box. Start the sticker on the clear lid and wrap it around the side and onto the back of the bottom box. You can see the label positioning in the next photo.

To gift wrap: Place 3 or 4 folded onesies into the kraft box and add the packaged first year photo stickers on top. Centre the memory box sticker label on the box lid.

Note: If you did not personalize the memory box label before printing, it can done later by hand using a fine sharpie marker.

The gift box takes on a new purpose afterwards as a memory box to hold baby photos and small objects. I thought that the custom sticker on top of the box was too pretty to cover with wrapping paper so I simply tied a ribbon to the box to finish.

diy candle favors using our love-ly mini mason jars

Tuesday, 24 March 2015

diy candle favors | Creative Bag

Here's a unique diy wedding favor idea that is easy to create in an afternoon and one that you can personalize in so many ways. I used soy wax flakes and our small "love" mason jars to create these candle favors.

You can add colour to the wax to match your wedding colours or leave the wax white as I did. You can use one colour wax or layer several different colours together! It's easy to add a scent to the wax using concentrated fragrance oils.  I wanted my favor to co-ordinate with a confetti theme, so I added coloured candy confetti to the wax after I poured it into the jar. The jar lid can be personalized with custom printed stickers. I also added a large paper flower to a gift tag and attached the tag to the mini mason jar using baker's twine.

diy candle favors | Creative Bag

Here's what I used to create my candle favor: mini love mason jar, soy wax flakes, 2.5" candle wicks with tab, glue dot, chop sticks or similar, baker's twine, measuring cup or similar to melt wax in, medium saucepan (to use as double boiler), water, candy confetti.

Optional - essential oils for fragrance and/or wax dye. Follow instructions on packaging for these elements if you are going to add them to the wax.

diy candle favors | Creative Bag

1. I used a 2.5" standard candle wick with tab in this project because it was the perfect height for the jar. (Basically, I could not see the point in paying extra money for the 6" wicks when I knew I would be cutting the wick down to 2.5" at the end.) To keep the wick from falling over when you are adding the wax to the jar, simply place a glue dot on the bottom of the tab and adhere it to the bottom centre of the jar. To keep the wick straight, tie a piece of baker's twine to the top of the wick and wind the twine around a chop stick as shown above.

2. Melt your soy wax flakes according to the packaging instructions. I was only making one candle so I melted my wax in small quantities. I placed a small glass bowl with some soy wax flakes into a small saucepan of boiling water and left it to melt for about a minute before stirring. I would suggest using a small Pyrex measuring cup instead of a glass bowl to melt the wax if you have one - it's easier to pour the melted wax into the jar.

3. I poured the melted wax in layers into the mason jar so that the candy confetti did not all fall to the bottom of the jar. I waited for each layer to dry before pouring more wax into the jar.

4. Once the mason jar is as full as you would like, let the wax dry completely for a few hours before removing the baker's twine from the wick.

Decorate your jars as you would like using custom stickers and/or hang tags.

Chalkboard stickers and paper tags can also be decorated with custom stamps using ink or chalk markers. I showed you how to do that here with ink and here with chalk markers.
